PAX highlights.

STORYTIME! Today was my only day to roam PAX as a free agent.

- Long lines are looooong. I have just enough podiatric fortitude to wait in one major line each full day I’m at PAX, and since today was my only full day, I got one game. I picked Batman: Arkham City, which was maybe a 10-minute demo that I waited in line for a good hour for. It was totally worth it. I wanted to wait for Skyrim or Mass Effect 3, but 2-3 hour waits are just obscene for games that I already know I’m gonna buy anyway. Sorry, Shepard, but Batman will win over you every time.

- I played Spy Party and absolutely LOVED IT. I hope this game comes out soon. It’s so good. I won both rounds I played and was feeling fiendishly accomplished and maybe a touch genius, then I stood up and walked around the other side of the display to shake hands with my opponent, who as it turned out was maybe nine years old. IN YOUR FACE, KID!

- Played VidRhythm while eating a donut. Extremely fun, laughed hysterically the entire time. Nightmare-inducing hilarity. You can put that quote in the app description, Harmonix. That’s a freebie.

- Having tattoos is an amazing conversation starter! I even used my own tattoo to start a conversation with a lovely Irish guy dressed as the Rocketeer (thanks, Dennis, you were delightful! You’ll never read this!). There were several people who wanted to take photos of my tattoos, including a sweet girl who chased me down the street yelling “MA’AM! HEAD, RED HAIR! TATTOO GIRL!” which I think sums me up really well.

- I finally met my convention crush, John Drake from Harmonix. Dreamy sigh! He and the other Harmonix guys there at the time (Aaron Trites and Eric Pope) were massively cool to talk to. I also got fab hugs from Wonder Russell (sober) and Brittany Aubert (definitely not sober).

- I saw a squadron of people all dressed as Lando Calrissian (Cloud City cape costume version, all with mustaches). High point of the day.

- Not even once did anyone come up to me and talk to me about the show, but I saw a few people nudge their friends and point at me. I’ve been stressing how friendly and harmless I am up till now, but I’m going to try a different tack: if you come introduce yourself to me, I will slap you square in the face and spit in your eye.

Friday, 12-1pm, Serpent Theatre: The Harridan’s Guide to the Game Industry
I’m a panelist. Come ask me easy questions that will make me seem very smart. Everyone who comes gets a FREE!!! optional high-five at the end of the panel.

Friday, 2-6pm: I’ll be donning my Guild Wars 2 staff shirt and roaming the convention floor, looking for deserving fans to give cool swag to. Wear that rad Guild Wars 2 bandanna you probably have laying around and I’ll be the helpless shrimp to your anglerfish.

Saturday: DAY OFF! This is my fun, aimless-wandering day. Must-sees: Skyrim, BF3, Spy Party, SW:TOR.

Sunday, 2-6pm: Again, I’ll be handing out swag to only the most enthusiastic and inappropriately vocal Guild Wars fans on the convention floor.

Even being on hiatus, I’ve been trying to keep up with Youtube comments and emails about once a week. Today, confronted with an upcoming weekend of nothing to do, I thought I’d do some cleaning on the ol’ channel to prep for a possible episode.

This has been a really difficult decision, but I have to take a hiatus from Youtube. Again. But this time, I’ll explain myself.

My fiancé and I broke up a week and a half ago. This means that now my time is compromised in a host of exciting new ways: I have a 90+ minute bus commute each way to work; I have to spend what free time I can get looking for new apartments; I’m spending every other night at a friend’s apartment; and frankly, I cannot stand being in my house and I’m trying to leave it as much as I possibly can.

It’s also fair to say that I have no ability to enjoy my geeky hobbies right now, as sitting alone in my house with a broken heart playing LA Noire is emotionally incongruent.

Chances are good that if you’re reading this you already follow my twitter, but if you don’t, please do: @shegeekshow. I’m still tweeting this week about E3 and the cool news pouring out of there. And maybe I’ll be able to pull my shit together and do an episode next week, and maybe I won’t, no promises. But right now I focus on moving, cleaning, socializing, and pouring myself into my job - Youtube is just going to have to be patient with me.

I think I was probably 6. My mom wasn’t crazy about letting us watch TV, but for whatever reason, we were up to our eyeballs in video games. I’m grateful for that balance, actually.

I love Braid’s soundtrack. I feel like it’s kind of an invalid answer, since the songs largely weren’t composed for the game - but there’s never been another game whose music I loved so much.
